Start your project

Two ways to begin.

Know what you have and want a quick estimate? Build it in the calculator — Super 8, 8mm, 16mm, 35mm, video tapes, and photos all in one order. Not sure exactly what’s in your collection? Tell us about it and we’ll respond within one business day.

What do you have?

Pick everything that applies. You can mix as many media types as you want — Super 8 reels plus VHS tapes plus a box of slides all ship as one order. We’ll walk through each type on its own screen so you can think about one thing at a time.

Not sure what format you have? Pick the closest guess — we’ll send you a quick visual identification guide before you ship, and we double-check at intake. If you’re truly unsure, the inquiry form lets you describe what you’ve got and we’ll respond within one business day.

+ Formats and scenarios outside our scope

We’d rather refer you to the right specialist than half-handle something. The following are outside our current scope:

  • Audio formats. Cassette tapes, reel-to-reel audio, 8-track, vinyl records, microcassettes — these need audio-specialist labs.
  • Pre-1952 nitrate 35mm. Highly flammable, requires specialized hazmat-rated facilities. We refer to LOC Packard Campus, Eastman Museum, or Academy Film Archive.
  • Bound photo albums. Albums where photos are permanently mounted to pages need destructive removal or specialized book scanning. Loose photos — including ones glued in but separable — are fine.
  • Very large photo orders. 2,000+ photos, slides, or negatives use a custom workflow — please use the inquiry form for an accurate quote.
  • International shipping. Currently U.S.-only without prior arrangement. International orders need customs handling and a custom shipping quote — use the inquiry form.
  • Severely degraded film. Stage 5 vinegar syndrome, fused-to-itself reels, or film that can’t be safely threaded: we refer to TMTV in Nelson, BC. Earlier stages we handle with sprocketless transport.

What Happens Next

From estimate to delivered files.

Whether you proceed from the calculator or send an inquiry first, the process from there looks like this.

  1. 01 / You send

    Confirm & ship

We send you a prepaid FedEx or UPS shipping label through our commercial account — 20–30% below retail. Pack per our guide; we handle the rest. Insured door-to-door at order value or $2,500 minimum.

  2. 02 / Intake

    Inspection & condition report

Every item individually inspected, barcoded, and documented. Condition report sent to you within a few days of receipt. If damaged-media surcharges apply, we quote before scanning — never after.

  3. 03 / Scan

    Frame-by-frame or flatbed scan

Sprocketless transport for film, time-base-corrected capture for tape, flatbed scanning for photos. All work performed in-lab — never outsourced or shipped out.

  4. 04 / Deliver

Files arrive · originals come back

Vault access for streaming and download (Y1 included free), plus optional USB / hard drive. Original film, tape, and photos returned in the same condition received via insured shipping.

Turnaround

3–5 weeks · standard

Consumer orders run 3–5 weeks. 35mm and institutional projects run 4–6 weeks. Rush service available at +35% (10 business days) or +60% (5 business days), subject to capacity.

No surprises

Estimate → confirmed at intake

The number you see in the wizard is your estimate, based on what you tell us. At intake we measure actual footage and confirm. If anything differs by more than a few percent, we email you with the new number — and you decide before any scanning starts.

Your originals are safe

Never outsourced, always returned

All work happens at our lab. Original film, tape, and photos returned via insured tracked shipping. We never store, resell, or destroy originals.
